James weighed in at 4 lbs. 13 oz. Gaining weight is a good thing, but 5 ounces in one day just can't be right.
Edema is swelling in the body caused by fluid leaving the bloodstream and traveling into the tissues. It is common in premature babies, whose urinary and circulatory systems are not fully developed. Medications may be given to help the baby pass urine, reducing the amount of fluid in the body.
The thing is, James doesn't appear overly puffy. NP Carol was not concerned, said this was common and would probably resolve itself.
