Quite a day though, as Michael and Jean Brodeur had a little girl today down the hall. She is clearly an overachiever, because although she is a week younger than James, she is 10 lbs. 10 oz. Almost 4 times his size! Mother and baby are doing well.
Other news of the day for James. He had his first hairstyle today, as he got hair gel as part of a cranial ultrasound. Standard for all preemies, we will have the results tomorrow, but nothing scary by preliminary report. Also, James has his first boo-boo. Somehow he ended up with a little laceration on his arm. No good explanation, but it is steri-stripped closed and will be fine.
James is breathing well, still on the Vapotherm, the machine that blows warm wet air into his nose. The settings are almost at room-air. Also, he is becoming a more prolific eater. He has graduated to feeding every four hours. Only a ml, but still, that means he will eat more than a teaspoon of Robin's milk a day!
Each time someone asks James' story, there is another that comes in return. Today was the EMS Memorial at the Empire State Plaza. Daddy chatted with a friend there who said, "2 pounds 9 ounces? I've got you beat! My daughter was 2 pounds 3." It is wonderful to hear how many stories of little babies there are, and so comforting to hear how many are doing well.
On a really important note, we are continually surprised and touched by the next outpouring of love and support. Our friends and family are being so wonderful that we could never hope to thank them all. Meals keep appearing, wonderful desserts arrive, and there are always people ready to play with either Patrick or Llama... thank you all!
